Chapter 18 Fire and Fury

Chapter 18 Fire and Fury

"Alright, Enara," Liria said, raising her fists with a defiant smirk. "Let's see what you've got."

Enara chuckled, tilting her head as darkfire sparked between her fingers. "I don't think you're ready, forest mouse."

With a sudden burst of speed, Enara lunged forward, her fists crackling with darkfire. Liria managed to sidestep her first blow, feeling the rush of heat as Enara's attack narrowly missed. She retaliated with a quick punch to Enara's side, using every bit of force she could muster.

[Successful hit. Opponent's Health: 610/700]

"You think a tap like that's going to stop me?" Enara scoffed, spinning on her heel and sending a burst of darkfire toward Liria.

Liria leaped back, summoning a Fireball in her hand. The black flames crackled as she hurled it forward, meeting Enara's attack head-on. The two flames clashed in mid-air, dissipating with a hiss of steam and smoke.

[Strength +1]

Her muscles burned from the effort, but she could feel herself getting sharper, faster. Each dodge became just a little smoother, each strike a little stronger. It was as if the heat of the battle was igniting something within her.

Enara seemed to notice the change, her smirk faltering just slightly. "Well, well. Look who's getting confident."

"Confidence has nothing to do with it," Liria shot back, dodging another burst of darkfire and countering with a swift Ember Swipe. Her black flames slashed through the air, nearly grazing Enara.

[Magic +1]

The system chimed in her mind, but she barely paid attention, focused entirely on reading Enara's movements. Each time the demon princess attacked, Liria could feel herself anticipating it just a little better. She was learning her rhythm, her tricks, even her weak points.

Enara's eyes narrowed, and for the first time, a hint of frustration crossed her face. "You're a stubborn little pest, aren't you?"

"I prefer the term 'resilient,'" Liria replied with a grin, narrowly avoiding a swipe aimed at her head.

[Endurance +1]

As the battle raged on, Liria could feel her own power growing. She launched another Fireball, now burning hotter and fiercer than before, catching Enara by surprise and forcing her to step back.

[Fireball (Level 3) unlocked]

The flames blazed in her hand, brighter and hotter, and for the first time, she saw something other than arrogance in Enara's eyes. Just a glimmer of caution.

"Don't tell me you're actually starting to sweat, princess?" Liria taunted, hurling another Fireball her way.

Enara blocked it with a shield of darkfire, but the force of the impact sent her staggering back. She grit her teeth, glaring at Liria with a mixture of irritation and grudging respect.

"Alright, forest mouse," Enara said, breathing heavily. "You've gotten better. I'll give you that. But this isn't over."

"Oh, I'm counting on it." Liria grinned, her fists blazing with Ember Swipe as she closed the distance between them.

[Ember Swipe (Level 2) unlocked]

Enara's movements were sharp, her strikes ruthless, but Liria had started predicting them. She ducked under a darkfire punch and countered with a fiery uppercut, catching Enara off guard.

[Strength +1]

"System..." Liria whispered internally, her heart hammering in her chest. "What's going on?"

[Analyzing... Warning: Unknown energy detected. Target's stats have doubled. Proceed with caution.]

Liria's eyes widened as the system displayed Enara's updated stats:

Every single stat had doubled, and even her darkfire seemed to pulse with a new, frightening intensity.

Enara's eyes glowed with a feral light, her lips curving into a dangerous smile. "You thought you'd won, didn't you, forest mouse?" Her voice was now a chilling blend of menace and mockery, amplified by the sinister power radiating from her.

Liria swallowed, her mind racing. This was beyond anything she'd prepared for. Every instinct screamed at her to run, but her legs felt frozen to the ground.

"Oh, don't tell me you're scared now." Enara's voice dripped with venom as she took a step forward, her shadow expanding like a living thing, stretching across the ground toward Liria. "You looked so proud a second ago."

Liria clenched her fists, trying to keep the fear from showing on her face. "Don't flatter yourself, princess. I'm not done yet."

Enara tilted her head, the aura around her flaring as she gave Liria a predatory grin. "Then I'll enjoy making you regret every moment of your misplaced confidence."

As Enara's dark energy surged, Liria's heart pounded harder. She was outmatched, and the cliff of dread stretched steeply before her.
