Chapter 58 - 58: White Dwarf Star Core
Kneeling on the ground, Thor stared in horror at Gene Mason, the armored figure standing beside him.
The energy that had just erupted from the sky was all too familiar—it belonged to his father, Odin.
Yet the black, humanoid machine beside him had just shattered Odin's divine power head-on.
What kind of being was this?
But in a way, Thor found it easier to accept. If this being could challenge his father's power directly, then it wasn't so surprising that he could also lift Mjolnir.
As steam and waves of heat rolled off Gene's armor, it was clear that his machine had overheated from clashing with Odin. But the damage was negligible.
"I like this hammer. I'll be taking it with me for now."
Having crushed Odin's divine power and even injured the Allfather himself, Gene spoke as if nothing had happened.
He turned his gaze to the surrounding S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
"I'm taking the hammer. You guys don't have a problem with that, do you?"
The glowing red V-shaped visor swept over the agents, each one feeling an indescribable pressure from his gaze.
"Mr. Mason, you can take the hammer," Coulson said, standing firm despite the tension. "But we will be tracking you."
Gene chuckled. "Tell Nick Fury I'll be paying him a visit soon."
As his words fell, a golden, shimmering portal opened beside him. Without hesitation, he stepped through it and vanished.
—
"Agent Coulson… who was that?"
"My god, that was terrifying."
"I've never seen energy on that scale before."
"Thank heaven we're still alive."
"What did he mean by 'Odin'? Was he talking about the Odin from Norse mythology?"
A flurry of panicked and awe-struck voices erupted among the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as soon as Gene disappeared.
The sight of that massive, blue dragon roaring into the sky, the sheer force of the energies that had clashed—these things had burned themselves into their minds.
At that moment, a group of white-coated scientists rushed out, their faces flushed with excitement.
"Incredible!"
"The energy backlash just now completely fried our measuring instruments!"
"This is beyond fascinating!"
"We detected a spatial anomaly—a wormhole opened in near-Earth orbit!"
"And that thing—it vanished like it was using magic!"
"The way he spoke of Odin and Asgard… Could they really be the gods of Norse mythology?"
"What the hell is happening in our world?!"
The re
His neural network fired up at full capacity, running trillions of simulations per second.
He needed the perfect method to merge this star-core material with his existing armor.
Within one minute, the calculations were complete.
A grin formed beneath the armor.
"It seems… it's time to build myself a new body."
But before that, there was something else he needed to handle.
"First things first… Let's deal with Iron Man 2."
Gene's Starlink Project had already flagged Ivan Vanko's actions long ago.
In fact, Vanko's every move had been under Skynet's surveillance since day one.
His motivations, plans, and behavioral patterns had all been mapped out—his next move had already been predicted.
That was the power of Big Data in the digital age.
Just as modern smartphones track and suggest things based on user behavior, Skynet had done the same to Vanko—only on a level millions of times more advanced.
At this point, Ivan Vanko was an open book.
And Gene Mason?
He was about to close it.
