Chapter 1: Lost what was most precious

"Where is he?" In the basement of a safe house, a graceful woman in her thirties walked past the multiple bodies that were lying on the floor before turning her attention to the sole survivor of the massacre.

A funnel of water kept rising above her head even though there was no source of water in the room.

The man who was on the floor already knew why this woman was there for him. After all, she had been chasing him for years, all because of a little mistake he made when he was young and foolish.

"Mei...Meiyue, Listen to me! I truly had no idea that boy was your son!" the man said to Bai Meiyue. With his hands raised in front of him, the man said to her, "Su Hu! That man was the one who lied to me; he said to me that — that your son was an orphan and sold him to me."

If he had known that buying that boy eleven years ago would lead to a day like this, he would have chopped Su Hu and Bai Xue's heads off instead of buying that boy!

The two of them were dead now, and they deserved it. But what about him? He was just an innocent man who was trying to make a living and survive in this apocalyptic world!

"Huang He," Bai Meiyue coldly interrupted the man while looking down at him. Her face was devoid of human emotions as she raised the water sword in her hand and pointed it at Huang He. "I am not in the mood to care about what Su Hu did or what Bai Xue did. All I want to know is, Where is my son?"

For ten years she had searched like crazy for her son, Bai Cai.

Her little Cai Cai was only six years old when that bastard Su Hu stole him from her and sold him to human traffickers. All in exchange for a sack of rice!

Her son, whom she had raised for nine months in her womb before bringing him to this world after having one foot past the doors of the underworld—he was sold off for a sack of rice!

If only—if only she had come to her senses before then her son wouldn't have been sold off.

Even though he as a grown man could not withstand a pain like that, how could a child withstand it? As for what happened after that, Huang He only heard it from Su Hu who had been boasting to others.

"What did you say?" Bai Meiyue asked in a deadly whisper.

"The people from the research centre took him away," Huang He replied with tears streaming down his face. "They wanted to create a prototype similar to you. I heard from some of my underlings that the leaders are upset with you and want to replace you."

Bai Meiyue stood still, with the water sword in her hand. She looked like a statue as she had completely stopped breathing. Her heart was tearing apart as the words of the man echoed in her head.

Bai Cai.. Bai Cai was taken away by researchers as an experimental subject. Her son must have cried for her right? He must have — Bai Cai was such a sweet boy, he must have been terrified without his mother by his side.

But those people took him away! They took him away from her!

My son... My son—

Bai Meiyue breathed harshly as tears dripped down from her stern and cold eyes.

'Mom is here.. Mom is back,' These were the words that Bai Meiyue wanted to tell her son when she met him again but now she would never meet him!

However, two seconds later, she raised her head and looked at the man. Recollecting herself, she asked,

"Which research centre?" Bai Meiyue could feel her heart bleed when she heard that her son's body was used to create pills! She could feel ants crawling up and around her heart, but she couldn't fall now! She had to take down those who dared to touch her son!
