Wen Ran strolled to the tavern of the next building, now dressed in the inner disciple attire. His face exuded confidence, though nothing significant had happened behind those closed doors. Despite this, he couldn't shake off the feeling of elevation. Being attended to by several beautiful women was a dream for any man, but he kept his desires in check. Women are always so hard to resist, he thought, but keeping my Yang energy pure is more important for now.
He was glad, at least, that this body of his lost its first when it didn't have a spirit root; otherwise, he'd be in deep trouble moving forward. But once he reached a certain realm, he knew this wouldn't be an obstacle he couldn't overcome.
For now, though, he needed to focus on regaining the strength he once had—and he hoped that would happen soon. There was something unsettling in the air, an ominous presence. Is it disaster looming, or is it just my imagination?
Wen Ran gazed up at the sky, a distant look in his eyes. He knew that, sooner or later, the gods would come for him. He was fortunate to be in a different body this time, but the aura of his soul would only grow stronger with time. Once he reached the Nascent Soul realm—the stage where many cultivators undergo a transformation, shedding their mortal shell—he would be one step closer to his ultimate goal. It won't take long, he thought. In my past life, I reached Nascent Soul in under a thousand years. If I'd kept my purity, I would've reached it in five or six hundred.
He sighed deeply, pushing those thoughts aside as he made his way into the tavern. The moment he entered, he noticed many cultivators eyeing him curiously. He stood out, no doubt about it. His appearance alone drew attention, and his presence was impossible to ignore.
"Who is that?" someone whispered, breaking the uneasy silence. Wen Ran ignored the remark, scanning the room for any sign of Luo Feng. After a brief glance around, he spotted a thick stairway leading to the second floor. He must be up there, Wen Ran thought. That must be the VIP lounge.
But the moment Wen Ran stepped forward, he was stopped by several individuals. "Hold your horses, brother..."
"Wen Ran," he answered flatly, his eyes scanning the trio before him.
Slap!
Wen Ran's palm moved with lightning speed, striking the man across the face with full force. A pair of pearl-like teeth flew from the man's mouth, landing on the floor as his face swelled grotesquely, turning as swollen as a pig's head.
"Y-you dare hit Big Brother?" The other two rushed at Wen Ran, throwing punches with anger. But who was Wen Ran? To him, these were just children—arrogant because no one had ever dared to put them in their place.
He kicked the one coming from the left straight in the chest, sending him flying across the room. With the other one still charging, Wen Ran used the idiot in his hand as a shield, blocking the punch. His fist slammed into the man's face, knocking out several more teeth.
"Big Brother, I'm sorry!" The brother who had attacked Wen Ran panicked. That gave Wen Ran the perfect opening. He closed in and landed a punch right to the other brother's nose. The impact sent him tumbling backward, clutching his bloody face.
"See what you did?" Wen Ran suddenly raised his voice. Another loud slap echoed through the tavern. The onlookers who hadn't fled now watched him like he was some sort of demon. He was the one provoked, so why was he blaming the man in his grasp?
The beating didn't stop. Slap after slap landed on the man's face. His swollen cheeks and the chokehold around his neck left him gasping for breath. Soon, he went limp, losing consciousness. Wen Ran tossed him aside and reached for another of the brothers still lying on the ground.
"No, please—" SLAP!
Wen Ran didn't care about apologies at that point. He had to make it clear that he wasn't someone to be messed with. If he let these idiots off easy, there'd be more like them coming for him in the future.
