Chapter 279 The Closer Your Hand to the Halberd, the Farther Your Foster Father from You

Chapter 279 The Closer Your Hand to the Halberd, the Farther Your Foster Father from You

It was that woman!

Zeus's heart chilled, and he immediately opened the barrier, speaking solemnly.

"What happened? Be more specific!"

Under that slightly ghastly scrutiny, Luo En dared not hide anything and began to recount his previous experience.

"As you know, pressured by the Hundred-Handed Giants, I accidentally took shelter in the Sea God Temple..."

Hearing the words "accidentally," Zeus glanced at the embarrassed person in question, scoffed lightly, and gestured for him to continue.

Seeing that Zeus was not pursuing further, Luo En completely relaxed and hastily gathered his courage to continue pondering.

"But as soon as I entered, it felt strange, as if I had collided with a mass of black fog unconsciously..."

As he spoke, the Luo En in his recollection showed a face filled with fear and afterthought.

"At that instant, I felt as if I were dead, my soul being gradually consumed and my consciousness dragged into an endless darkness. Fortunately, the commotion of Poseidon fighting with the three Hundred-Handed Giants flung the entire Sea God Temple, possibly making her worried about being exposed, so she chose to flee, and I managed to break free from that weird state. I thought it was an illusion initially, but as I kept having these strange dreams recently and noticed this strange mark on my body, I confirmed that everything that happened before was real."

"Not just real, you nearly lost your life!"

Zeus scoffed coldly, his eyes emitting a deep darkness.

No wonder Peleus had been chasing Tethys for so long, and no one dared to show up at sea;

No wonder Tethys, despite calling out thousands of times outside, Poseidon stayed hidden in the Sea God Temple and refused to come out;

No wonder as soon as the three brothers of the Hundred-Handed Giants got close to that place, his normally timid brother immediately picked up the Trident and began fighting with the Hundred-Handed Giants;

Turns out, Poseidon had been colluding with that person from the Netherworld all along.

He just mentioned that his brother had just finished serving his sentence in Thessaly, so how could he have returned to the Sea of Okeanos and started recklessly conspiring with other marine gods?

Discovering the "truth," Zeus looked up at Luo En, a cold smile appearing on his face.

"So, is this why you hid outside for so long? Until you couldn't solve the problem with your body, then you came to find me?"

"Yes, somewhat..."

Luo En admitted sheepishly, looking down, but he did not forget to try to defend himself.

"But my loyalty to you and Tethys is genuine!"

Zeus scoffed coldly, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

He didn't care whether the young man opposite him was genuinely loyal or not, as he had the divine seal of the covenant and could sort out this youth anytime from the soul level. These were all trivial matters to him.

What truly concerned him was Hecate.

But beneath the generous encouragement of the Divine King was still a chilling undertone.

He didn't care about the lives of his wife and children, how could he truly care about an outsider.

His choice to support and generously assist was merely because this young man was right.

The collusion between Hecate and Poseidon was indeed a threat to his throne.

Given that, a forceful response was necessary.

On one hand, he ordered the three Hundred-Handed Giants to defend the Primordial Ocean, cutting off any connection between the sea and the Netherworld while also seeking an opportunity to deal a blow to his own brother, letting him completely abandon any thoughts of disputing the throne;

on the other hand, whether Hecate intended to silence him or use his form as a stepping stone to meddle with the divine authority in Olympus, he could simply turn her plans against her, using this vicious dog to tear a piece of flesh from the Goddess of the Underworld.

—He was also eager to test the Divinity of "Chance" that could break through Fate.

In the end, there were only two possible outcomes.

This lad would get through this, live on, marry Tethys, and continue to serve him;

If the lad couldn't bear it and died, according to the contract, he would obtain a fragment of the soul imbued with the power of chance, giving him solid evidence of Hecate's unrest, allowing him to negotiate for more privileges with The Three Fates:

Since whatever choice he made would be advantageous, Zeus naturally didn't mind giving the young fellow enough incentive to willingly face death.

Was this, in a sense, a form of end-of-life care?

Zeus placed a hand on Luo En's shoulder, looking upon him with great esteem.

"Do as you've said, I trust you."

Feeling that overwhelming divinity surge into his body, Luo En immediately showed an excitement as if eager to rush to his death, and declared loudly,

"Please rest assured, Your Majesty, I will not disappoint you!"

Zeus, upon hearing this, displayed a faint trace of annoyance.

"Still calling me 'Your Majesty'?"

Immediately, Luo En understood, his lips quivering as he stuttered out a certain title.

"Father, Father God?"

"Ah, both Tethys and I will be waiting for you."

Zeus nodded, showing a satisfied and affectionate smile.

Similarly, Luo En also smiled, radiantly and blissfully.

The two figures, standing face to face in the prison, resembled a loving and harmonious father and son duo.
