Chapter 4 – Raid

Oki, the director of the Special Phenomena Bureau, was in a good mood. She tried on different outfits and stood in front of the mirror to check her appearance.
“Do you think this mature look is good, or should I go for a more youthful look?”
She was trying on clothes in a carefree mood because the government had approved her contact with Yuuya.
“Whatever happens, this is the first time I’ll be meeting with Yuuya-kun, so I have to be ready for it!”
Without paying any attention to the clothes scattered around her, Oki turned her eyes to the wall of her room.
And there it was──.
“Ahh... it really is wonderful...”
──What a surprise, there were pictures of Yuuya all over the wall.
What’s more, there were photos of Yuuya not only after he leveled up but also before he leveled up.
As she approached the wall covered with photos of Yuuya, Oki’s expression became entranced.

Then, with a wistful smile on her face, Oki went back to choosing her clothes.

After completing our exploration, we returned to the underground base and handed over the remains of the mechanical knights that we had taken as loot.
While most of the other teams that had returned earlier had come back empty-handed, we had fought the mechanical knights and brought back all of their remains.
Then Sein-san, the leader of the Awakened Ones who was inspecting the loot, was surprised.

Sein-san quickly gathered his thoughts and gave orders.
“Order the Awakened Ones, who are currently searching for the mechanical knights, to return to base immediately! Also, make sure they know that the mechanical knights have a new stealth function!”

Upon receiving the instructions, the Awakened hastily operated their devices and contacted their teams one by one.
As a result, the teams that had been out exploring gradually returned to their bases.
And although most of the teams returned safely...
“...We still can’t contact Rikuto’s team.”
To everyone’s surprise, Rikuto and his team never returned and went missing.
In the midst of all this, one of the awakened people asked Sein-san.
“Sein-san, what should we do?”
“...There’s nothing we can do. Today’s exploration is over! Besides, you said that you would conduct a large-scale operation next time, but... we have to analyze the situation first. For now, everyone should remain on standby.”
And so, everyone except Rikuto and the others were told to remain on standby for the time being.
